Satisfying Building Regulations – Will you Need Planning Permission?
Planning permission is one of those tricky areas to navigate – you will sometimes need it, and at other times, surprisingly, you won’t, but you often won’t know this until you have already embarked upon a building project. Whether or not you will need planning permission all depends on the type of structure you are building – if you are building an entirely new dwelling or building, then this will be a change of the land use and you will need planning permission.
Often, if you are adding to your property with something like an additional cabin or work space in the garden, you won’t need planning permission. However this depends on where it is in relation to your property, and how much of your permitted development you have already used. Permitted development indicates the work that you can do to a property without planning permission, so once you use it up, you will need to apply for planning consent in future.
