Installing Underfloor Heating and what to look out for
The history of underfloor heating can go back to the Romans, who had a similar system known as a ‘hypocaust’ whereby the floor underneath them would be raised on large stone pillars in which a furnace would be turned on in hope of radiating heat through the floor, usually to heat public baths and areas. These rather primitive and quite industrial ways of heating a floor eventually evolved into modern systems with fluid filled pipes or electrical cables, the latter being the most popular choice.
Fortunately in the 21st century, we are now able to have a system (with thickness of 1-2mm) which fits just under wood laminate flooring, without burning or causing patchy heat areas. The system is also green with many saying that some heating systems only utilising 100watts of power at a time, equivalent to almost 2 light bulbs.
Coupled with the sleek and unnoticeable design and with warm feet, underfloor heating in the home proves to be an enticing proposal.
