How does Compressed Air Need to be Treated?
Compressed air is a really good way of generating energy for a range of applications. However, it does have its limitations if the air is not treated. Often, compressed air treatment will be required to make sure the air can be used properly, in the right way, without damaging the compressor in any way. This is all dependent on the industry as well. Sometimes, you will need clean air, dry air, or perhaps even sterile air (this is often the case for medical applications). Look into the air treatment that will be required if you are going to purchase an air compressor.
These are the different ways in which air can be treated:
Refrigeration
A refrigeration dryer is removes water vapour from the air – pressure dewpoints are at +3 degrees. There are many brands available that will have the refrigerator function, and they can be integrated easily into different systems that already exist.
Desiccant air dryers
These air treatment systems will also dry the air and have a -20 to -700 dewpoint. They can be oil-free and can help to save energy.
Filtration systems
These will remove oil and particles from the air, by filtering them out to create sterile air. They can also help with odour removal.
Breathing air
This is used in breathing masks and is powered by an air purifier.
Why does air need to be treated?
Sometimes, air will need to be treated before it becomes usable. One of the most common ways of treating it is to dry it. This is necessary because of the water vapour that is in the air, that could cause problems if not removed effectively. During the compression process, air rises, which means it carries more water vapour. The air condenses when it is cooled, and a lot of condensation can collect in the air distribution piping, having gone into the downstream centrifugal separator. This is why additional drying is needed – to avoid maintenance work on the machines and to avoid downtime, which will ultimately end up costing you money.
Where should you purchase air treatment systems?
Air treatment systems aren’t the kinds of things where you can get a bargain or look for a cheaper deal. You should always spend what you need to spend to get the brands and the products you require. Make sure the drying and treating systems you are looking at will be compatible with existing systems, and with your wider applications. You must consider it to be an investment, rather than trying to cut any corners.
If you want to know where to buy air treatment systems, look for reputable retailers in your area, or look online. Do some research into compatibility first, so that you have some information yourself, then see if they know what you do. This is a good indication that they are a reliable and knowledgeable person who will supply quality compressors and air treatment systems. If you are going to be using lots of equipment in future, see if you can get a bulk buying discount.
