If you need a trades person to carry out work in your home such as an electrician or a builder then you may wonder how to ensure that you choose the right person. Often, they will have to work working in your home for a number of days, weeks or even months so it is important that you can trust them. You may also have to pay them money upfront. Be sure to never pay in full upfront for work, ask if you are able to pay 50% initially and then the final 50% once completed.

You need to try and go off recommendations if at all possible as this will give you the best insight as to what they are like as workers. Sometimes using friends or family is not the best idea unless you are confident of their work as this can make it very hard if you need to raise an issue with them.

There are sites such as Check a Trade that allow you to look people up but it is common for some of these reviews not to be genuine so you do have to bear that in mind.
