Converting your loft to provide extra living space
Rather than moving to a new house have you ever thought about converting your loft to provide another bedroom or a study? Many people are looking at this option as they do not want to spend money on moving but would prefer to invest the money in their home. How easy is it then to convert a loft if this is something you have decided is a good idea for your family?
The first thing to do is to check whether a loft conversion is suitable for your property. The chances are if neighbours with the same type of property as you have done this then your house will be suitable. Having a consultation with a builder will confirm this and a good builder will probably be able to discuss planning issues with you and give you an idea of the costs involved with this type of conversion and the permissions you may need to obtain from the local council.
Two of the costliest tasks will be installing Velux windows in the roof and creating a way up to the loft in other words building a staircase. Spiral staircases are often used in this instance as they can be installed in a small space.
