Lifting Regulations – Keeping Staff Safe on Site
All staff members have the right to be well looked after and well protected whilst going about their jobs. If they work with heavy loads and lifting processes, it’s important that they are in possession of the right equipment and have received the best training possible to make sure they can complete their tasks safely. Many injuries still occur due to inappropriate lifting processes, so it’s important to ensure the safety of your staff at all times.
As an employer, you are responsible for health and safety. One of the most important things for you to do is ensure staff have the right equipment to complete their jobs properly. They might be able to lift some loads easily, in the usual safe manner of keeping the backs straight whilst lifting, but there will be some that are too heavy. In these instances, staff will need support in the form of a crane, hoist or similar, or the load will need to be lifted by multiple people.
