Crane Forks – Ideal for Lifting and Material Handling

Are attached to a crane arm to make it suitable for the task of lifting pallets. This is a real benefit to you as a business owner and manager – it means that you can use your crane in as many ways of possible and really get your money’s worth. If you are working in a small space and a forklift cannot get into it, this might be a good time to use a crane fork. It will be able to reach down and have the load affixed to it, rather than a forklift needing to be brought into the right space.

There are two main types of crane fork – manual balance and automatic balance. Here are the differences:

  • With a manual balance fork, the crane operator will need to adjust the hook hoist position manually, to make sure the load is picked up safely. This will mean that the load can be raised up without it tipping or falling off. It’s important that the load is well balanced throughout the lifting process.
  • Automatic balance forks will adjust themselves to the right position, so there is no need for the operator to do anything before it begins to lift the load. However, you will need to find the minimum weight for the mechanism, as it won’t work unless it is carrying a certain weight. This will be specified in the manual.

If you need to buy a crane for for any of your equipment, first make sure that it is going to be compatible. To do this, you can speak to a knowledgeable manufacturer. They will be able to tell you how to find the right crane fork and talk you through the process of installing it, or install it for you if required. You can also choose a crane fork that is high quality, as this is going to mean that it stands the test of time and you won’t need to buy another one again soon. Make sure the model you select is covered by a decent guarantee. There are lots of reputable brands you can choose, like Raptor or Palfinger.

Pallet forks come with a range of specifications. They will often have a weight capacity of around 5000kg, but this will vary depending on the brand and design. Many will have an adjustable height mast and will come in a safety colour, like yellow. This means it will work with the rest of your lifting equipment. Forks can be adjusted depending on the pallet size. Look for forks that come with a chain that is used for securing the load. You should service your equipment on a regular basis and make sure it is in good working order. If members of staff are using pallet forks, they must be fully trained in their use. The manual should also be fully accessible for them in case they have any questions. Regular ongoing training must take place, even if the staff member has used a crane fork at work before.
